FAQs

What are your shipping rates?

Shipping rates are calculated on the order size (number of skeins).

  • United States: $5 for one skein + $1 for each additional item; free shipping on orders over $100 (use discount code FREESHIP)

  • Canada and Mexico: $18.50 for one skein + $4.50 for each additional item

When will my order ship?

We appreciate your order! In-stock yarn will be shipped the next business day with USPS. Custom batches or large quantity orders may take up to 5 days to ship. We will notify you if this applies to your order, as well as if there are any other circumstances that might cause delays.

I’m local! Can I pick up my yarn in person?

For free local pickup in Lexington, KY, select this option when you check out. I will email you to coordinate a pick up time for your yarn as soon as the day of your purchase.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Sure, within 30 days as long as the item is in the same condition you bought it in (once yarn is caked or wound, it is yours forever). Shipping costs will not be refunded.

Can you match dye-lots for my order?

When you order multiples of the same yarn, you’ll receive skeins of the same dye lot.

How do I care for my knits made with Maps Yarn?

Each of our yarn pages includes specific instructions for how to care and wash items made with that yarn. In general, for non-superwash yarns, we recommend hand washing the item gently with woolwash (Soak or Eucalan) and then laying it flat to air dry. Do not agitate or wring out our knits as this can damage the delicate natural fibers.

Superwash yarn is a bit heartier and can handle machine washing. You still will want to lay flat to air dry afterwards.

Please reach out if you have more specific questions about caring for your knits!

Where does the name Maps Yarn come from?

Conley loves digital mapping and is a Geography PhD student at the University of Kentucky. The seed money to start building Maps Yarn came from an award she won for an interactive web map of Lexington’s Urban Service Boundary. Once she started considering the name Maps, she couldn’t get the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song by the same name out of her head, so it just stuck!
